Localize (translate) the Software into other languages
With Geopublisher you can translate the contents of your atlas in any language. To do that you don't need to read this page. This page covers the translation of the software.
As of January 2011, the Geopublisher and AtlasStyler v1.7+ applications are translated into six languages: German, English, Russian, Turkish, Italian and French.
If you want to help the project by translating the software into another language, look at the following steps. Before you start to work on any new translation, please contact Steve on the mailing list. We will support you and ensure that no two people are working on the same translation.
1. Create translation file:
In Geopublisher go to the Options -> Manage software languages. A dialog will appear giving an overview about the existing languages.

Presse the button to create new language files and select your language. A .properties file will be created in a sub-directory .Geopublisher in your home directory. Pressing Open folder will open it in your explorer.
2. Translate:
Open the freshly created .properties file with a text editor. You will see multiple lines, each containg a =. Start to translate the right side of the = sign of every line. Finally please send us the .properties file and we will include it in the next version.
Special characters: Once the translation file is part of the official distribution, all special characters are automatically converted to UTF8 inline notation (e.g. \u2345). You don't have to worry about it.
3. Test:
To test your translations you have to download the zipped version of AtlasStyler or Geopublisher and you have to start the application using the start....bat or start...sh file. The application will then reflect your latest translations.
When you follow this guide and encounter any problems, please contact Steve at the mailing list.
